    Hello Sirs,
Well I guess a few more posts will have to be deleted to make room for this one! Hi,hi

I must of been on the Top spot (last post in the thread) for about a week (page 478) before someone worked that one out!!

If any more posts get deleted then this thread will make less sense than it already does?[IMG]

Its nice to see this thread slowing down now and some Understanding from both sides I Hope?

But the Topic still comes up elsewhere when someone gets the withdrawal symptoms [IMG]

I hope to work you further down the log as they say,

    Hi Samantha,

The reason this thread is slowing down is due to it's current length. It takes longer and longer to re-read it, and so the per-day post count is bound to diminish.

    73,

    Bob

the point is, how is the elimination of element 1 testing going to move ham radio into the 21st century?

    IT ISN'T !!

That is just excuses that they invented up so they don't have to apply themselves to learn the code..

When the code gets dropped, (which they WON'T get an upgrade until it does) then they can get on HF,,,

    THE EASY WAY

Strange. Last time I noticed, Amateur Radio is still a hobby. Like saying cars are only driven by drivers, not the average car operator.

Amateur Radio is a SERVICE !

Oh, then why do NCTs have a problem when it's pointed out that the CB Radio Service is already a form of HF operating not requiring a Code Test? To the FCC, all radio is a service.

That's right. That's what I go by. I never seen where the FCC calls Amateur Radio a hobby. They are the ones that run all the radio stuff, so if they don't know, then who does?
btw, you change your avatar more than I change channels on the TV.

Yep, keep 'em guessing. Just becuase the FCC calls it a service, doesn't mean it's a "Service" Technician UZR. If that was the case, we'd have rank. And that obviously isn't the case since the Extras get absolutely no respect from many Techs. Don't see CB'ers getting in a crimp about being a "Service" either and they got just a tad less sense than Techs. So that shoots down that whole "Service" bubble. Heck, we've got the Family Radio Service too. Just what do you think "Service" means??

Well No. 1 I'm a general, and 2, the FCC calls radio a service like telephone is a service. The armed forces don't use HF frequencies any more. Or if they do, they don't rely on it. And we are suppose to be using Amateur Radio in disasters. I announced MidCars for a while, and that's a service where we relay mobiles to whoever is calling them from fixed station and can't hear each other. There's the Marine Mobile net on 14.300 there, and that's called a service. Amateurs helps in communications in all kinds of situations, like hearing someone's call for help from someone that's boating, and their boat is sinking.
Well, whether those are services or not, that's what I think they mean by service. But I can't be sure the FCC says service means the same thing.

Okay General UZR. I'm just a dumb Extra, but it seems that everybody here still wants to be one.

Hamming is what you want it to be. Hamming is what you make it. It can be a "service" or a "hobby". When the FCC calls it a service, it's basically just the frequencies set aside for this bunch of licensees.

Hams that have called Amateur Radio a 'Hobby':

    W9UWL
    KD5CLK
    K6BBC
    VE1IDX
    KC9GUZ
W5LJM (Said 'hobby' was key word to hamming.)
    K0RGR
    W0LC
    AK7V
    KG4DCI
    W5HTW
    AG4YO

Just a short list. For all the gory details, check here.

You got your service in my hobby.
You got your hobby in my service...
For all I care it's two, two, two types of radio in one.
