RAC Will Not Attend Hamvention this Year

Thanks for posting this, because otherwise, the absence of RAC would not be noticed.

 

I guess the ARRL is gaining ground in North America!

 

Not that my opinion matters, but a simple "The board has decided RAC will not to attend Hamvention 2025 in an official capacity." would have sufficed.

I have no doubt many RAC members will make the trip, be greeted warmly by other amateur radio operators, and politics won't cross their minds.

I agree. People generally get along just fine, while it is the " -isims " that try to get in the way.

 

Maybe home town favourite Drake will make an appearance too.

 

Regarding the RAC’s poor decision not to attend HAMVENTION this year I feel this is very unfortunate. We are always taught to keep politics and religion out of our hobby. And yet they have allowed politics to influence their decision.
As a Canadian residing in the U.S. for many years I have learned to keep discussions of a political nature off the table unless I know I am talking to a kindred spirit.
One of the wonderful things about hobbies in general and amateur radio in particular is that it gives us the opportunity to meet and become friends with others whom we would normally never meet and get to know. As an example I have collected law enforcement badges for many years. The majority of collectors I have met and befriended are police officers. The common interest is what brings us together and we become friends. During these difficult and trying times we should adopt the philosophy that we must never allow differences in political philosophy to interfere with our friendships. We can do this simply by respecting the other fellow’s right to his opinion and expecting them to do the same with us.
That is all it takes………
