Thanks all for the comments - the antenna has held up rather well with Hurricane Harvey blowing through. I'm starting to see a closer in pattern of received APRS packets with this shorter antenna, but a more dense concentration of them closer in.

I'll try a dual band 1/4 w next for 2m/70cm.
