WEAK CME IMPACT: A CME hit Earth's magnetic field on Oct. 31st at approximately 10:00 UT. The impact was weak--a far cry from the "big hit" we expected. What happened? It's possible that the bulk of the Oct. 28th CME missed our planet because it was directed somewhat south of the sun-Earth line. Despite the feebleness of the impact, minor G1-class geomagnetic storms are still possible in the hours ahead.... (LOL) SCIENCE!
Yes, the speed is difficult to determine because the protons are coming directly at Earth. Normally the speed is measured at a right angles it’s rare that the CME fires directly at us.
Yesterday's propagation says that conditions were excellent. World SSB competition was a blast, activity from every other source I heard was high, even CB came to life. I made New Zealand on 10 meter USB with a vertical from ND. 20 meters yesterday was so busy it was unberable and could be worked late into the evening. I'd say the practical assessment of the solar activity on propagation was "breddy gud".
Yeah, hamclock said the K index peaked at 4. it's been hovering at 3-4 for the past half a day. well, so much for the aurora :/
Not seeing anyone or anything on 6 meters. Just one or two blank tones. And that's probably some internal harmonics or something.
As of 5 Eastern on Halloween, the bands were full of contesters for the CQ WW SSB contest and the forecast was improving... Compare to graphic above. https://cqww.com/index.htm
Wow. Why wasn't I afraid ... ? I'll tell you why. We have fake news, fake weather, and of course ... fake solar weather. There is literally nobody, who can tell anybody, the truth about - anything. We apparently need to be afraid of ... EVERYTHING
LOL. I'll bet you didnt know, but sometimes I lurk here and see how everyone is dealing with the conditions. It's always fun to find posts like these. So thank you for making my day.
Yes, it is possible the solar storm went south of us. But we have to hold our breath for one more day as we are still within the window of error for arrival time.
