You haven’t been through a Hurricane! Widespread damage and you are the emergency service cause there isn’t any! Don’t put all your eggs in one basket!

So how do you call 9-1-1 on an HF radio? Or on a VHF+ HT? If the hurricane has taken out the cell towers, your favorite repeater is almost certainly also tango uniform.

An interesting point that invalidates most antenna bans. If they are going to enforce antenna bans, cell phones should be included, as well as cars with antennas.

and wait until these places get 5G antennas with no oversite, because the FCC will rule for the giant telecoms.

Not quite. I suspect no Architectual Committee would be concerned with your pocketbook or back pocket antenna.
Sounds like the denial issues have evolved to postulating absurdities

Except, if more emcomm participants are needed, you'd think ARLL would also be pushing for more. So far, crickets. Telling is an interview on WGMD of Mike Ulrich (KA5CVH, ARES PIO for Harris County TX) after recent flooding near Housten where he states (at about 7:00) that there seems to be LESS need for hams: link.

The Good News here, is that the ARRL STILL does NOT have justify this in any way, shape, or form. No matter how many times someone repeats it, it just isn't so.

You're less likely to BE Tango Uniform, IF you have multiple points of Alternative communications.

Not if the service is knocked out...then it ISN'T.

Just as soon as they get their act together.

In that case, your favorite repeater is also likely DOA, as well.

There's nothing that AR can do that commercial services can't do better and with better reliability.

    Yet, they do.

I don't understand -are you implying that an honest appraisal of need isn't necessary to justify their statement? That they can saying anything with no basis as long as it serves their desire?

That can't be what you intended...

No doubt. The problem is that the 7200 gang aren't going to be much help in an emergency...

OTOH, my experience as a transmission facility tech in a TELCO Central Office (and later, Primary Center carrier maintenance facility) was that, reliability was quite high... something WELL over 95%. When commercial power was out, often, we were still working (on generator backup). Your phone would still work, albeit in the dark. :D
