Very Sad News.

I had the pleasure of working Bill Crane years ago. He was a true gentleman on air, and very gracious. It is good to have a face and background information to go with the silky smooth Morse that he sent.

Not only did Bill have a great fist, he had a good signal out of that vertical! 73, Bill.

 

This is so very sad to hear. I had the pleasure of working Bill a couple of times. I would hear him frequently on the 30m band around 10.114MHz. I couldn't resist just listening to his warmup exercise and listening to him in a QSO. His CW was so clean and easy to copy. I really liked how he would call CQ at maybe 25wpm and then alternate at about 14wpm so he was sure to invite a spectrum of CW ops. I hadn't been working 30m all that much and wasn't really looking for him for a while. Today I was wondering where he was recently and sure enough, I stumbled on this sad news. I will certainly miss hearing him.

 

Sad news. I have worked Bill many times through the years, and it was a pleasure to have long rag chews with him. For years I also worked in television, and we would discuss the business. Really enjoyed his CW warm up of "Bens Best Bent Wires" That was his signature. He will be missed but remembered as one of the best. 73 OM Rest in Peace.
