Antoine De Ramon NYeurt, 3D2AG, is one of three hams in paradise, who holds up the CW representation from Fiji, the largest Island in the South Pacific and the second largest island in the World next to Australia. Antoine gave an excellent presentation last March at the QSO Today Virtual Ham Expo about operating from Fiji and Rotuma, another island 600 KM North of Fiji. 3D2AG shares his Fiji and ham radio life in this QSO Today.
I didn't quite understand what you mean with "the largest Island in the South Pacific and the second largest island in the World next to Australia" How about New Zealand ? Only the North Island of New Zealand is 6 times bigger than Fiji.
Listen again (carefully). He said "excluding Australia and New Zealand" Fiji is the largest island in the South Pacific. He said it quickly and it was easy to miss what he actually said. 73, Jack W8KR
The article says "next to Australia".....Greenland is not next to Australia. The North Island of New Zealand is the biggest pacific Island closest to Australia.
Of course, that's correct, and any good ham should know that The phrase "Next to Australia" could commonly be interpreted to mean "After Australia" in the context of being in some sort of order (such as size) as opposed to implying a geographical closeness. At least, that's how I read it. 73 Frank W3PX
According to every wall map I've ever seen, Alaska and Hawaii are right next to each south of Calfornia:
God bless Tony and his family. He has endured tragedies and its great hearing him on the air. Tony is a cw stalwart from an area of the world that is seldom heard here in New Jersey. Its great to see Tony get some recognition and great to have had qso's with him.
...and, according to Britannica, Australia is a continent; not an island. Reference: https://www.britannica.com/story/is-australia-an-island
