I use the Notes field in my logbook, typically to record the rig I'm using. I save a Note as part of the QSO, and confirm the Note is saved. In the future I go back to the Note of a QSO and the Note field is blank. I haven't seen a pattern, they seem to "stay" for an unknown period of time and then they vanish. Got me licked. Any clues as to what is going on and what I need to do to save my Notes permanently? Thanks.
Please provide one or a couple example QSOs where the note "vanished" and I'll take a look and see if I can determine anything.
Thank you for your offer to help, appreciated. My two most recent QSOs have no notes, I'm now second guessing myself, it was late and I was tired, did I forget? The two before have notes, before that again no notes. I'm positive the earlier QSOs had notes entered. This is not a new problem for me, I noticed it ages ago (a year or two ago?). At times I re-enter the notes but they don't stay for long. I've not been disciplined in monitoring this so my bad for being a little wishy washy with detail. But from day one I've entered a note on every QSO, I may have missed entering on 1 or 2 QSOs at different times but my process is to add my rig to every QSO via the note field. Not having a subscription doesn't help, I think a sub would let me export entries including the note field, that way I could monitor with certainty. Side question, what's the "recommended" field to record the rig I'm using? Thanks again for your offer to help.
Looking at your logbook further, I can see a number of QSOs where you've added either comments or notes, or in some cases both. We do our best to investigate complaints like this, but we do need something to go on. The ADIF specification details the various different fields such as notes and comments and what they are intended for. Based on the spec, Notes is probably the best choice, but in practice, I'm not sure it matters. QRZ works hard to maintain all of the ADIF fields provided regardless if we need them for our logging and awards purposes or not. And yes, a subscription would allow you to export your entire logbook for backup or archival purposes. Any level of subscription would give that capability.
Okay. Just so you know, I'm not "complaining", I'm very grateful for the QRZ platform. Not sure what I can give you "to go on" other than I feel I've added notes to every QSO. A thought, is it possible for you to export my log with say date, call, note, comment? From there I could enter notes against every QSO that is noteless. And from there I can monitor. Thanks again for your help.
I too have had similar issues with entries within the notes section. However, I have not seen notes 'vanish' but, when logging a new contact any data I enter into the notes text box is not saved on the first go around. I have to re-open the contact, select edit then re-enter or paste the data I want in the notes section then save. Only then will the data appear in the notes column when viewing the QRZ log. This behavior does not occur when adding comments. It would also be nice to have checkbox's for persistent comment and/or notes information to be automatically loaded on subsequent log entries. Thanks, Steve KC4SM
Hi Steve, after checking carefully I realised the notes weren't vanishing, they were never saving, and the notes that I had saved were done via edit. Just as you describe. I raised a new thread https://forums.qrz.com/index.php?threads/notes-not-saving.952656/ Notes not saving | QRZ Forums. The result of the new thread is an acknowledgement of a bug. It must be a curly one to fix as it was acknowledged in April 2025.
