The first entirely new book on CW in decades, The CW Way of Life, is now available on Amazon in paperback and kindle versions. https://www.amazon.com/CW-Way-Life-.../ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= Announced on just March 7th, only two weeks later, CWOL is already getting rave reviews on Morse code-oriented sites: "A modern-day seminal work on CW." "My only regret is that I didn’t have this book when I started learning Morse code." "Congratulations on a great and inspiring book." "If you like to understand WHY then this book is worth the price..." " It should be “recommended reading” for all newcomers to morse code." CWOL’s unique curriculum combines techniques dating back to the time of Morse with modern training principles to create a learning system like no other. The most important component is you! No computer is needed! Subjects covered include: How your brain turns sensations into thoughts. Morse’s true rhythmic nature - harmonics - not ratios! How to ride the "dit train" to fluid keying. The lost technologies of code talking and speed-keying. The true cause and prevention of Glass Arm. How to read and write Morse like music - on paper." CWOL is an enlightening read for ANY ham. 73 Chris NW6V
Interesting article. I've been pounding brass since 1972 and this book sounded interesting enough to purchase it for my Kindle. I'm looking forward to reading it. 73
CW as a philosophical enterprise? I would be interested to see an MRI of brain activity during high speed CW.. Chris should have had his callsign on the book cover...MO.
Pounding brass since '85 as a Navy Radioman, ironically, with the very same model Key, Code, Morse, Flameproof, US Navy, Mark 1, Mod. 0. Congrats on the book. I think it would have been, more clever, if NW6V typed up his QRZ write up in code! _ . _ _ _ . _ . _ _ _ _ ..._ MO
Here's a new way of writing Morse called "Double-D Notation" - dD I use and teach in CWOL. Read it to yourself, saying the dit and Dahs. D-dddd-dD-Dd-DdD-ddd ddDd-DDD-dDd D-dddd-d ddd-ddD-DDd-d-ddd-D-dd-DDD-Dd DDddd-dddDD DdDd-dddd-dDd-dd-ddd Dd-dDD-Ddddd-dddD (stupid software removes the multiple spaces between words- ARGH. Makes it hard to read) sorry...
Thanks for the heads-up. I'll be downloading in for the Kindle. I wonder whether it can be had in audio format - IN MORSE ?! ;-)
Sure you can. First, convert your kindle file to plain text. Then use KY8D's perl script called GUS_MORSE to generate .wav or .mp3 files from the text file which you can listen to on an mp3 player. https://starling.us/free/morse/gus_morse.txt
It sounds like a very interesting read, I'll try and order it later when I can be sure it won't be charged to the business account I use for work. 73
I purchased the Kindle version and am very much enjoying it. I have been struggling with head copy for some time but after reading a section of the book seems I am listening to hard and paying to close attention to CW. His speed train analogy made perfect sense to me and I will leave it at that as to not give up one of the many pearls that are within the book. 73 Mike VE9KK
