That guys voice was recognized by a ham and his call sign yielded the address. Having a call sign is what saved the mans life, not the radio. A call sign is definitely part of ham radio.
"confirmed it may have" That sounds like it means something, doesn't it? I would say that he simultaneously "confirmed that it may have not"!
I watched the story and couldn't figure out how ham radio had anything to do with saving the man's life, except that the guys were friends in the hobby.
sounds like a ham radio friendship, but the life saving came from a land line and a retire nurse, but if it gives ham radio credit i have no issues with that. because they had established a ham radio friendship, he dial the wrong number and got his ham radio friend instead, wait! ok yup that's what happen,
Yes, an emergency response via FT8. "Well they got through for sure. But then they didn't say anything and just left."
Funny. I posted this article some time ago, and it was deleted by the mods for not really being about ham. Later allowed to be re-posted with a photo that shows up on the main page. I think QRZ needs to moderate its mods. Or just stop playing favorites.
