Wow! This thread really imploded for ole N9OGL. Im afraid he is way out there, farther than I care to go. And I thought my life was starting to suck.....    Kiddie porn is kiddie porn whether it is actual images or someones sick imagination. I saw enough on his blog page to know the difference between 'art' and worse. What a freak! Wierd how some threads take off on odd tangents when you arent watching. Dude, get help now! I agree that the jammers were just as bad as Baxter. However, the person who uses an open frequency of 14.275 and is in QSO when K1MAN starts up is NOT the jammer. (Example, the Scouts were not the jammers in that famous incident when K1MAN accused them of jamming.) The rules are clear: no one owns a frequency. Not K1MAN, not a net, not the stations who have "used it for 20 years". No one.

 

Especially true for someone who still uses an analog VFO (to determine where his sideband will be parked). It matters not whether it be a sloppily-slidden-slug to determine where its parked, or a phase-locked loop.

Correct, as stated, within the context of Part 97 as it applies to us wherever we have primary assignments. However, as the rules state, we must move off in favor of primary assignees where we are secondary. So, even first-come, first-served is not always the case in our service.

OK, I'll just modify it slightly.  "No Amateur Radio Operator - or group of operators - owns a frequency."  How's that? Including the vast majority of us who still "use an analog VFO". (It was still the rule when there was nothing but analog VFOs.)

 

Ah yes... the infamous Boy Scout Jamming Incident, instigated by the Bloated Broadcaster from Belgrade Lakes.

I remember it well. There we were, about 8 of us in qso on 3.890, and we were having a great time. The band was in good shape and very quiet. We had been there for over an hour. Then we heard a Boy Scout Jamboree Station calling and the Scouts wanted to talk to us!

We began working the Boy Scouts one by one, giving each a chance to work all of us. We told them how cool ham radio was and how you could make life-long friends and talk to people in distant lands. We told them how easy it was to obtain a license (and getting easier all the time).

Then another Boy Scout Jamboree station from Canada joined the frequency! We were working Scouts left and right. Now we had a great big group of Scouts from two different countries. If memory serves, there were 80 in all, and we had worked about half of them when, suddenly, a huge carrier appeared on frequency...

By this time in his broadcasting career, Baxter's schedule was erratic to say the least. It was a schedule with no rhyme or reason. A non-schedule if you will. He would often appear late, or not at all, and that night he was very late. Naturally, we expected him to QSY or hold off until we finished working the Scouts, as any competent operator of a station under direct control would.

Alas, it was not to be. His drifting carrier wiped out the Scouts 100 watt stations completely and the sound of Baxter's muffled telephone tape machine mingled with the confused and angry sentiments of 8 radio amateurs who were expecting to work another 40 Boy Scouts during their Jamboree On The Air.

We tried to QSY, to find another clear frequency, but 75 meters at night is a crowded place, and moving 8 stations and 2 Jamboree stations manned by Boy Scouts from two different countries proved an impossible task.

Ironically, Chris Murdock, Baxter's long time co-host, called Glenn 3 times to inform him that the Scouts were being wiped out. Glenn played the tape the following week as he vowed to sue everyone involved with "interfering with a known bulletin station."

Naturally, he claimed I "orchestrated the entire charade" and that he had "sworn statments from observers who witnessed a conspiracy to interfere with a known bulletin station." Naturally, his conspiracy theory was a crock of bilge-water; another big lie in a series of defamatory statements made about complainants. His attempts to defend his behavior were pathetic. It was the first time he admitted on the air that he didn't listen to the frequency before throwing the big switch, and of course, I happened to catch his admission on tape and the rest is history.

He refused to tell the Commission who the control op was that night (failure to respond to a Commission Directive) and his excuse for mercilessly jamming the Boy Scouts was, 'No we don't listen before we transmit our bulletin, and we don't qsy; to do so would be even more disruptive.' He went on to say we were all guilty of a felony and that he would prosecute this crime of interfering with a known bulletin station! In case you're wondering, he never did apologize to the Scouts.

I know I said I would go no further in my discussion on this, but one quick clarification for Fred: It is not necessary to agree or disagree with me on the question of Glen feeling he is serving the amateur service. My point was simply that HE must honestly feel that he is (or has). Certainly his goal was not to tick off a majority of the ham community and initiate all the hatred and controversy over his actions. What does he gain by that? In fact, it may end up costing him. If you all want to keep this thread going, have at it, but I am at the road's end.

Speaking of Glenn, where is he as of late? I haven't received one of his Baxter Bulletins via email since his FO announcement circa March 30th.

I guess he managed to pay his internet domain name fee, as his website link over to aol members is back up.

Well, could be. Of course, Dayton's coming up and he may be fixing up that old Toyota so it can make the trip.

Perhaps somebody near Belgrade Lakes could drop by to see if the lights are still on. Who knows, he may have paid his Domain Name fee, but not his power bill.....

Of course, he could always do like our friend Chip, N1IR, and take his lap top down to a Starbuck's or Panera Bread and do his I-business via their free WiFi service.

That way, he can make good his threat of "staying on the air until someone physically takes him off the air."

Of course, he won't be K1MAN any longer. "IEEE802.11(b)-Unit 1 calling CQ......."

Speaking of that, do you think anyone will apply for K1MAN as a vanity club call in a couple of years as somebody did for Gerritsen's old call?

And, of course, I have nothing to do with this thread topic; Lee is just trying to be a jerk, IMO.

I do, on occasion, play the 'angel' role and look at power points for new ventures, when the technology interests me. Starbucks is the stereotyped place to do this--on both coasts.

All I did was use our friend Chip's self-admitted affliction with abundant WiFi useage as an example, and he has to jump in and start name calling.

Gosh, I can't even mention one of his pastimes in a friendly way as an example without some defaming comment in return.
