Great pics on the W2F qrz page. I never served on a carrier, but spent some time on the Destroyers Ingersoll (DD-990), Oldendorf (DD-972), and the Fast frigates, Lockwood (FF-1064), Francis Hammond (FF-1067), and several Islands around the world. I'm not a big fan of the changes they made to the enlisted uniforms, they did that three times will was in. They seemed to want to make us look like soldiers or marines instead of sailors. +1 on being 19 again. this getting old sucks. USN (ret) 1967 - 1993
Was a Sea Bee so not much active duty sea time. Worked as Merchant Sailor when I got out, plenty of time afloat there. To all afloat Happy Fleet Week de KE4AHP/Randy
Yeah they change the Uniforms twice during my time, when I first enlisted it was the "business suit" uniform, then the last year I was in, they changed back to the "crackerjack" uniform, which of course, everyone had to purchase on their own dime. I purchase a new one a few years ago for my father's funeral, it seemed a lot less expensive at the Surplus store! *** Go Navy *** 73
Dungarees and Cracker Jacks... and the white Cracker Jacks WITHOUT the piping... those look like Chinese Navy uniforms! I never really wore the Hood Ice Cream or Johnny Cash uniforms; perhaps in A School and Fleet Comm Schools in NORVA.
