FCC ULS System Outage

The FCC's online system, http://wireless2.fcc.gov appears to be down. All of QRZ's FCC updates come from this site.

Ever since the government shutdown, the FCC system has been sporadic at best. It is apparent that during the two or so weeks that the operation was understaffed, their computer system ran wild and misbehaved without adult supervision. IT professionals would be quick to point out that a modern system should not require constant supervision in order to remain reliable.

We've been getting a lot of complaints from hams, and especially NEW hams, about our data not being in sync. That's because our data comes from their public data sets located at the same site. To be honest, we probably can't trust them to be correct. We certainly can't trust them to be timely. They are about as concerned for ham radio as the post office is for your mail that didn't arrive.

So, if you're waiting for a license or upgrade to show up on the QRZ website, please be patient. There is quite obviously nothing that QRZ can do but wait. Other websites may have parts of the data that QRZ doesn't have, and that may be due to the other sites using screen captures from the FCC web pages. QRZ doesn't do screen capture but rather waits for the official public release of the data files.

Bear in mind that QRZ has followed every FCC website update over the past two decades and we check their public release area two times every day for new material.

Also note that writing to QRZ or submitting a support ticket will not speed up the arrival of your listing. We capture every FCC license and put it up as soon as it arrives.

Well, at this moment their site is back in service. We are certainly happy about that!
