Don't they still use pencils and paper in elementary schools when teaching math? If not, we're doomed as a nation.

I know the hobby has changed since I started almost 50 years ago, but good grief!!!! I should not be surprised about antenna calculations, an Extra class once brought me mic he couldn't get working.................. he had super glued the wires to the terminals.

Over the last 20 years or so why are hams and manufactures calling transmatches, mono matches, etc "tuners". The only way to "tune" a coax fed dipole is to change its physical length. The other point is that you do not "tune" an antenna system to begin with, you match the feed point impedance to the transmitter or receiver. One other thing than I'm done, if you are using an Amp with variable out put matching i.e. pi-network or what ever L/C network why do they place a "tuner" between the amp and antenna system? As long as the Amp loads into what ever system your using why add another matching circuit? Most Amps will match between 30 - 100 ohms +/- . If you are thinking about what your watt meter is saying keep in mind that they are calibrated for 50 ohms.

You can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish.

Blame the arrl? (for the um, dumbing-down?)

May as well pile on. ARRL gets blamed for everything else in these forums.

Or, for a change of pace, blame Russian hackers.

Made my 40 meter dipole with a alpha delta center insulator and calculated about the 1/2 wave to 65' 5" for 7.150. But I wanted to cut it for about 7.190 to 7.200, so I added about an inch and Boom I have a SWR of 1.0 to 1.1 from about 7.125 to 7.280 with the SWR barely moving.

I would think the boom would have had a detrimental effect on the SWR...;)

That ablum (link) produced some very popular tunes. :)

Now, back to our squabble... :p
