Just spit-balling here, but with so many big wide angle lenses up there, it could a good place to intercept or perform research with quantum cryptography and QKD, a priority subject of defense globally, apparently especially so for the PRC who is leading everybody with doing if from satellites.

Declaring a threat to security of personnel could be just a deceptive investigative ploy and cover to preemptively clear and secure the area so evidence does not get destroyed, and to watch the reaction of any persons of interest effected.

I think what's happened is that at the federal level (DOD) at this facility they are working on a proton-electron laser weapon. Something went wrong and now the electrons have mass and the protons don't. And now also a photon is no longer a ray and a particle. And their stockpiled Higgs bosons became antimatter.

I heard that fortunately they contained the leak with string theory.

Apparently what is not being heard is that a foreign tourists was found dead at White Sands. Nothing more has been said other than a tourists from Belgium I think it was. Maybe no connection but an interesting addition to the story.

There is absolutely no excuse for dying at White Sands. The gypsum sand is hydrophylic. If you plunge your hand into the sand it gets soaked. From the rain from 3 years ago.... You can't drink it but you can bring your body temp down.
