Out of historical interest, and resurfaced old desires, I got my Commercial 2nd class telegraph ticket in 2010. About 4o years after getting my 3rd class CW license, back when I thought I would go into radio after high school.
I did however visit the Pt. Reyes station (KSM) and operate and get my license signed by Richard Dillman. It still hangs on my wall. Yes, a great bunch of guys and well worth any effort to visit. BTW Richard is one of the very very few ops I have ever seen to send with a bug, and have it decoded perfect copy on a code reader.

I was a navy radioman stryker in mid 80s and I still recall the class E or easy msgs the crew could have sent.Mostly around the holidays like flowers to a sweetheart or a good howdy to mom an dad. Those were the days as sung like in All in the Family lol
