Final note; I see the ASA was long gone, as such, by the time you served... In 1977, the ASA was merged with the US Army's Military Intelligence component to create the United States Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM).

    now, where were we ?

Oh yeah... $18,000 would buy a lot of Beer & Crawfish :D

Bootlegging calls doesnt do you much good when your being followed by a sheriff's car. The car has it's license on the outside bolted to the bumper.

I and many others had direct, dailing dealing with Jerry on 2 meters...See Email from FCC regarding my complaint. Glad this guy got what was coming to him!

Instead of fining him, they should only allow him to operate morse code. That would be a worse punishment.

so let me be the devils advocate, if I jam a repeater but ID properly I might not be in the wrong due to the interpretation of the rules

"2. In this Notice of Apparent Liability for Forfeiture (NAL), we find that Jerry W. Materne,
licensee of Amateur Radio Station KC5CSG in Lake Charles, Louisiana, apparently willfully violated
Section 333 of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended (Act), and Sections 97.101(d) and 97.119(a)
of the Commission’s rules, by causing intentional interference to licensed radio operations and by failing
to transmit his assigned call sign in the Amateur Radio Service.2 We conclude Jerry W. Materne is
apparently liable for a forfeiture in the amount of eighteen thousand dollars ($18,000)."

I must ask why didnt the club do a fox hunt or go near the repeater during these times

poor ol dumb crook wasnt smart enough

Jamming refers to INTENTIONAL AND MALICIOUS interference.

ID or not, this was clearly INTENTIONAL AND MALICIOUS INTERFERENCE.

as KC7JNJ pointed out ,because the FCC engineer is standing right next to him telling him that he is ! They monitored him at home and then followed him to the repeater sight ,and then sat there and watched him do itl. So they tracked to the car not his callsign. So then the SO can go ask to see the guys drivers license and positively ID the guy , that way he cant say it wasnt me ...it was someone bootlegging my call ! So its tied directly to individual , The only license that matters is his drivers license and the plates on the car. Whether he had a ham ticket or was bootlegging a call wont make any difference....They've pretty well nailed to him .
