When I dream, its not about boat anchors and EV 664's... OR bugs.... Does anyone understand why this nostalgia stuff is locked into circa 60 years ago, and not, say, 30 years ago? This Gil cartoon just doesn't cut it, IMO. Really: there is nothing special and unique about the late 50's early 60's era in ham radio. We shouldn't be projecting to young people that is was some sort of golden era, that is sorely missed. The radios are missed by a very few living hams. What the pug nosed kid dreamt of was state of the art in 1958, and junk handed around to novices in 1968. If they managed to get past the crud phase of these radios, they dreamed of KWM2's, CX-7's, and iambic paddles. Expressing a personal opinion, the video pics of MORE Gil cartoons and cheesecake cover pic really isn't a positive image set. Especially the sexist message. The problem is that only a small number of living licensed hams were part of that era, so you have roughly 500,000+ Part 97 licensees wondering why radio are huge, hams are caucasian, and (not to mention) males. Thank God we are past that! If ham radio didn't become inclusive I would have left many years ago. What do YOU dream for Christmas? FLEX? Elecraft? DMR? What is drool worthy for YOU? Merry holidays to all! Chip W1YW
Nice! Merry Christmas to you and yours! As a new ham, Santa brought me a King Conversions Heathkit SB-221. I can picture how excited those getting the kits in the 70's would have been when opening the present. I bet they were great fun for a father and son projects. Still are great fun even today.
Don't have to dream any more. Last years christmas present, my Flex 6700, will be the last radio I need. Merry Christmas to all!
That was awesome, Gary..................hope you and Cindy are well...........thanks for all the great moments on the show and you two have a super Christmas and New Year!!! OVER AND OUT
