    Hi Everybody,

With sadness at the passing of Roy, ZL4BO.

I'm bound to say that I'm glad Roy was inducted into the ZL
Hall of Fame while he was alive. It was timely, and must have been really appreciated by the old fellow.

So time passes on...A "good innings" as they say, in his mid nineties..... 375 DXCC credits.

Roy's last "new" DX , he told me, was VP6DIA on 40m SSB from his holiday home in Alexandra.

Roy hasn't been active for over 4 years now, and from reports I've heard, Roy's passing must
be a relief for him...very alert and astute, but physically old aged.

Roy sent me two green stamps in a letter to me in July 2005. He wrote,
"I have sold our holiday home in Alexandra, and with that the chances of me getting on the radio again are
nil. These are my last two green stamps, use them to get your last country..."

Within 6 months, I had the opportunity to work KP5, my last one in December 2005... I used Roy's
green stamps for the QSL card, and wrote to Roy to tell him.

He was delighted as he wrote in his next letter.....

"You've done well my boy, and in such a short time too. Remarkable!"

Roy new something that I didn't?

"73 and GD DX de Roy ZL4 Blue Ocean"

    Condolences...such a gentleman!

    Duncan ZL3JT

Thankyou Duncan for posting the sad news of Roy's death.

New Zealand and the worldwide Dx community has not only lost a fellow Dx'er who's achievements were legendary but a true gentlemen of the airwaves.

It's worth noting that Roy ZL4BO was among the first 3 receiptants of the newly created ZL DX of Fame Award 2009.

    RIP Roy...

    73
