Most excellent! Combination of many hobbies put to practical use. Well done! Thanks for the report.
In an effort to encourage more "off-grid" field radio adventures take a look here for our Winter Field Day 2025 activation from Brannan Island in the Sacramento River Delta. Civilian vehicles but all-military radio gear. https://www.n6cc.com/winter-field-day-2025-n6cc/

Ill start putting videos on Ham Radio Outdoors - I keep meaning to do this but I always get wrapped up in just enjoying the outings. I have a couple from last year, a friend brought out a drone that takes good video.

I run the 6M from the bed of my M37 and do a touch of camping with my friends. (GPW, M38, M38A1, M151) We set up mostly "pup" tents and I use the bed canvas of the M37 as commo shelter.

Were you at a drive-in theater with a boy/cub scout troop some years ago? I remember being in a similar truck!

No, but that sounds like a neat place to take the truck for an outing. I just looked and all the drive in theaters in my region are closed, what a bummer. Although, now that I think of it, the driver and passenger seats aren't all that comfortable for lounging. Bolt upright and cramped.

When Elmendorf AFB and Ft Richardson were "merged' (JBER) - the USAF MARS folks absorbed the Army stn call.- KL7USA.
    ( see KL7AIR)

The KL7FBI, the radio club call for Shemya AFS, is held in trustee by John, out in Wasilla. (ULS License - Amateur License - KL7FBI - SHEMYA AFB AMATEUR RADIO CLUB)

It seems that Fort Wainright and Eielson AFB have remained sperate entities - a bit of a surprise for me as I had thought they got caught up the merger fever some years ago - but that's not the case. I rarely get to Fairbanks since leaving work at GCI.

Enjoyed reading and watching your video's. I'm also a retired Comm's officer and involved with military communications and a business supplying the military and govt. entities. Bravo Zulu to you and the Mrs. I only have a Humvee but also an H2 Hummer that is outfitted similarly for trade shows and personal use. KJ4AYT.

    Oh my...

Brought back some memories for me.

I did this for real for a little over a year in South Korea in 1990/91.

Only our squadron deployed with several 2 1/2 ton and 5 ton trucks, TTY/TYC-39s, mux vans, tech control vans, sat vans, power pro stuff, tents, MREs, no bathroom, no shower and we spent weeks at a time in the field. The hardest times were when the snow was blowing sideways. Didn't ever get much sleep. Spent a lot of time pounding ground rods, digging fox holes and setting up triangular defensive perimeters with over lapping fields of fire. Had claymores but never had to set them up. At night, I slept right next to a 60,000 BTU diesel fired heater and I was still shivering.

I still shiver today looking at trucks (or anything) painted like that.
