The Reverend William ("Bill") George Cruikshank, 75, passed away peacefully at his home in Blacksburg, VA on Friday, May 10th, 2013, surrounded by his family. Born in Schenectady, NY to C. Elmer and Mary (Lorimer) Cruikshank, Bill grew up in Burnt Hills, NY and spent most of his life in Upstate New York.

Rev. Cruikshank was an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church; during his career, he served several churches in upstate New York, including congregations in Bridgeport, Dewitt, Oswego, New Hartford, Lansing, Watertown and Oneida. He also served on several UMC Conference committees. He baptized hundreds of children, consecrated countless couples in matrimony, counseled innumerable individuals and couples and provided comfort to many in sickness and death. Known for his weekly sermons, Bill had a gift for delivering intelligent and inspiring messages that encouraged people to act on their faith by serving their communities and striving for social justice.

Bill was a lifelong ham radio enthusiast. He also loved the adventure of traveling; he lived abroad in Norway and led a church in Belgium early in his career, worked on church mission projects and led several groups on tours of the Holy Land.
Bill was a loving husband to his wife of almost 47 years, Joy (Chandler) Cruikshank and a proud father to their three children - daughters Michelle (Cruikshank) Williams and Denise (Cruikshank) Cormaney, and son Dana Cruikshank. He was a loving father-in-law to Bruce Williams, Mike Cormaney and Janna Perry and a devoted grandfather to his six grandchildren - Chelsea Maine Williams, Nathan Williams, Katie Williams, Alex Cormaney, Genevieve Cruikshank and Willa Cruikshank. A Memorial Service will be held at the Lansing United Methodist Church on Friday, June 7th at 11am. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Lansing Missions Program at the Lansing United Methodist Church, 32 Brickyard Road, Lansing, NY 14882.
