    Greg....

Thanks, (I think) for your links to whatever about Weller Soldering Irons.

I thought this was pretty much a site for Hams to exchange opinions and ideas .... guess not.

That was not an opinion or theory or advice or whatever.... it was an advertisement. This is not the place for it.

    Very respectfully,

Meh. Looks like all the other cheap chinese stuff with LEDs. I'll stick with the Hakkos and knock-offs.

Guess I'll have to stick to buying good ol' ones at swapfests..

Or, I'll just keep buying RadioSchack ones. Since my last expensive Weller died about 20 years ago, I've been using RadioSchack cheapies and just throwing them out and buying a new one every 5 years.

Oh God yes. Heaven forbid a ham should ever pick up a soldering iron and actually do something with it other than burn a hole in the rug.

This is the General Announcements section. The OP was making a general announcement letting everyone know about a new product available. Take a look at almost any other section and somewhere in some thread someone has mentioned a product they have purchased and posted a link to it. A soldering iron is every bit as much a tool to most hams as the crimp tool he uses to install his coax connectors.

    Ooooooh, precious :)
Surely it's relevant to anyone who homebrews equipment, no?

Well, I can see where a good light on the work is a good idea. I will hold this in reserve until I actually buy one, then I will develop an opinion.

I thought the redesigning would include warning labels in eighteen languages, including Braille, reading "Do Not Pick Up This End".

I haven't looked at them, but I bet it is "anything to increase the price".

More likely anything to get people that already have working Weller guns to buy new ones. I have two and they just won't die. I know I will lose them before they do. Funny thing is, I have broken the bulbs on them and don't miss not having a light, so it's not like I need to go buy one because it is light emitting.

I agree. I am so brite I don't ever need extra light.

I really don't see the need for the LEDs

There is no way it will replace good bench lighting.

But many people will buy it.

    Made in China.

I have a light for soldering. Nice and bright, somewhat easy to move into position, but it doesn't have as good a move arm as I would like. If this soldering iron makes up for it, I'll get one.

How about a headband light? Always points to where you are looking. Cheap.
