    Robert Finley McCorkle, Jr, 89, of Williamstown, died July 21, 2007 at Rowan Court in Barre, Vermont.

    He was born on April 16, 1918 in Baltimore, MD, the son of the late Robert McCorkle and the late Edna (Farmer) McCorkle.

    He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was the chief contracts’ administrator at Norden, a division of United Aircraft and lived in Stratford, CT for much of his adult life. He retired to Williamstown, Vermont in 1983. He was an active ham radio operator and a lifetime member of the Central Vermont Amateur Radio Club (CVARC).

    He was pre-deceased by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn (Nutting) who passed away in August, 2006 and a brother, John McCorkle. He is survived by four children: Suzanne Haselman and her partner Peter Loring of South Burlington, VT; Robert F. McCorkle III and his wife, Patricia of Orange, CT; Kathleen Lengel and her husband James of Portsmouth, RI; and Elizabeth Ramatowski and her husband Joseph, of Ansonia, CT. He had nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and was expecting his first great-great grandchild in the fall.

    As per his request, there will be no visiting hours or formal service. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate his life on August 11, 2007 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either CVARC, PO Box 888, Waitsfield, VT 05673 or the Ronald McDonald House of CT, 501 George Street, New Haven, CT 06511.
