Donald Wayne Letcher, 73, died Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at Solterra Senior Living, in Lakeside, following a lengthy illness.

He was born Saturday, Aug. 14, 1943, in Roswell, N.M., to the late Elmer and Amnie (Higgins) Letcher.

Donald was a veteran of the New Mexico National Guard and, after his faithful service, received his honorable discharge. In the 1960s, he moved to Arizona. He retired from Cable One after serving many years as one of its managers. Donald was an avid enthusiast of H.A.M. radio and communicated with people all over the world . Also, living in the White Mountains, he never tired of the beauty he found in his own backyard. He was a great outdoorsman who loved big-game hunting. Too, he was known to have a couple of favorite fishing holes and enjoyed spending countless hours with his family and friends there.

Donald is survived by his five children: Lisa (Terry) Pettyjohn, of Mesa, Shawnie Chalmers, of Scottsdale, Steve Letcher, of Mesa, Brandon Letcher, Danny Letcher, of New Mexico; brother Ken (Sue) Letcher, of New Mexico; several grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Along with his parents, Donald was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Letcher.

A private family service will be held in the coming weeks when his family gathers to spread his ashes over Greens Peak.

Owens Livingston Mortuary of Show Low handled arrangements.
