My Grandfather W4LTM (out of Richmond VA) passed away a month ago and I guess that was the final punch for me to take the final plunge and get my general ticket. My grandfather was a radio operator in WW2 and was a active ham until his death at 93. He tried so hard to get any of his grand children to get into the hobby and always had a box of HAM gear ready to be given to the first that earned a license. I tried so hard as a kid to earn a ticket and he was always there to offer help and to not offer negativity when I failed. He was a good man!

I had tried to pass the novice test when I was 9, 10, 12 and 14, but being Dyslexic made it more of a chore than an enjoyable experience - I wrote off HAM radio for life.

Needless to say, I took my exams last weekend and passed elements 1,2, & 3 in one sitting. He would be proud.
