    George A. Whitten, Jr, W4HWF SK

    George Alton Whitten, Jr., 85, of Eden, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at his home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, at Spray Baptist Church where he was a member and a deacon. Burial will follow in Lawson Cemetery, where military rites will be performed by the Rockingham County Veterans Honor Guard.Mr. Whitten was born November 15, 1930 in Rockingham County, NC to the late George Alton Whitten, Sr. and Ada Martin Whitten. He was a US Marine Corps veteran and a retired electronic engineer for Bendix Field Corporation, as well as AT&T.He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nancy Lee McMillan Whitten, of the home; son, George T. Whitten (Linda) of Jacksonville, NC; daughters, Cindy L. Shelnut (Jeff) of Florida and Georgann W. McGhee (Mark) of South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Thomas, Zachary, Kelly, James, Lee, Sandra, Shannon, and Sherri; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Johnny Whitten (Linda) and Joe Whitten (Virginia), both of Eden; and brother-in-law, Irvin Warren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Warren.The family will receive friends Friday evening, 6 to 8 p.m., at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.fairfuneralhome.com
