The Southern Lincoln County Area Amateur Radio Association is participating in its first official club activity-a special event amateur radio station to promote the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” in Merrill, Wisconsin on August 11 and 12.  This yearly event is a fund raiser for the Cancer Society and features teams of walkers taking turns walking for 18 consecutive hours to raise money for the organization to help fight the battle against Cancer.

The SLCAARA obtained the special callsign of W4C, or “Walking 4 Cancer” to use for this event.  Operators from around the North American continent and internationally will have the opportunity to contact this special event station and spend time on the airwaves spreading goodwill and awareness about cancer.

The SLCAARA has simple goals as a fledgling organization:  to promote goodwill and friendship through amateur radio, to assist the community and Lincoln County Emergency Management as needed, to be a valuable resource to the community in times of emergency and to promote the amateur radio hobby/service through educational opportunities in the community.

Everyone is welcome to stop out and visit the W4C special event station at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds.  Operation will begin at about 4:00 p.m. local time on August 11.  The walk starts at 6:00 p.m. and goes until noon August 12.  The special event station will end its operation about one hour after the walk ends.

    Frequencies are +/- qrm:  7.250, 14.250, 3.950, 21.350, 28.410, 145.190 (-) (no pl), and the W9GLG EchoLink node #198118.
