W3AIG, Samuel G. Eckerd, Jr.

Samuel G. Eckerd Jr., 71, husband of Constance (Lord) Eckerd, of Dolores Drive, Skippack, died Monday at Phoenixville Hospital.

Mr. Eckerd was born on Jan. 7, 1938, in Upper Darby, a son of the late Samuel G. and Edna (Geissinger) Eckerd.

He was a graduate of Media High School .

Mr. Eckerd retired in 2001 from Brandywine Motor Cars, West Chester, where he was a mechanic for more than 15 years.

Mr. Eckerd was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, the Kline-Styer-McCann Veterans Home Assn., Trappe, the Royersford Veterans Home Association, and the Thomas W. O'Conner Veterans Home, Association, Spring City. In addition to being a ham radio operator, he was a lifelong automobile enthusiast.

He loved to restore classic autos and was proud to have been a stockcar crew chief for Roger Penske Racing.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Eckerd is survived by his sons, Christopher L., husband of Alycia (Felgenhauer) Eckerd, Skippack, and Collin R., husband of Antonietta (DePaola), Berlin, N.J.; his grandchildren, Joseph and Alyssa Eckerd, Berlin, N.J.; and his siblings, Stephen, husband of Joyce Eckerd, Media, Ruth Stretch, Galena, Md., and Orenda, wife of Frederick Sultzbach Galena, Md.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday at St. James Episcopal Church, Germantown Pike and Evansburg Road, Lower Providence, with the Rev. Sunny Hallanan, rector, officiating. Friends may call from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at church.
