    AGE: 98 • Tinton Falls

    Walter C. Werner died peacefully on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013 at the age of 98 surrounded by his loving family. Having been born in Springfield, IL, he is predeceased by his devoted wife, June E. Werner (nee Diefenderfer) of 64 years and is survived by his six children, John Werner, James Werner, Constance Blackwood, Linda Werner, Elizabeth McKevitt and Patricia Hinze and nine grandchildren, Evan, Lora, Jennifer, Amanda, Tom, Colin, Mary, Scott, and Rachel.

    Walter served in the US Army Signal Corp as a Radio Repairman during WWII and was decorated with the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Service Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal. He studied electrical engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology. Walter was an avid Amateur Radio Operator and an active member of the US Army Military Auxiliary Radio System (MARS). He was a charter member and faithful parishioner of Luther Memorial Church where he served in many capacities. He will be remembered for his intelligence, quick wit, eloquence, sense of humor and love of sports, music, photography and family card games.

    Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at a memorial service on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 10:30am at Luther Memorial Church, 818 Tinton Ave, Tinton Falls, NJ 07724. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Organ Fund at Luther Memorial Church.

    his former Call Sign was W2DVR.
