I have searched "news" & "silent keys" but I can't find any mention or report of the passing of Stan Gibilisco W1GV - his member page is marked Silent Key but there is no mention elsewhere in QRZ? Does the death of someone who contributed so much to amateur radio as a hobby not merit some recognition? Some of W1GVs many books for TAB Publishing were amongst the best I ever read in any technical discipline. He was a prolific author of technical books and also some fiction. His YouTube channel had 100s of informative, entertaining and sometimes thought provoking videos about radio and also math and science and his own life tribulations. Stan evidently suffered from debilitating ill health for some time before his death and though he lived alone he managed to share through YouTube, his knowledge and enthusiasm for the amateur radio hobby until just days before his passing. Is there anyone amongst the QRZ or ARRL leadership who will speak in memoriam for Stan? Are there any members of this site or the fraternity of amateur radio enthusiasts who can share some memories of Stan? From the Post Bulletin of Rochester, MN https://www.postbulletin.com/obituaries/obits/6509217-Stanley-Gibilisco-Lead-S.D. W1GV Stanley Gibilisco -- Lead, S.D. I have watched most of his videos on you tube. Very informative stuff. Sad to hear he is gone to great hamvention in the sky.
I enjoyed his videos on YT for some time and was pleased to discover he had authored an article notable to me in QST on "CentiBel" loss savings in antenna feeds. He had an excellent way of explaining complex topics. So long!
THANK YOU STEPHEN FOR YOUR VERY RESPECTFUL WORDS AND THOUGHTS. ====================================================== ====================================== ===== =========================== =================== =========================================== =========================== =====================================================RESPECTFULLY, ===================
As someone just coming back after a long hiatus, I came across some of his informative articles and videos on the web. He was obviously well known in ham circles, and well respected as well. He will be remembered.
I just found this myself as I was reviewing his YouTube channel and noticed nothing posted in many months. What a character he was. Rest in Peace Stan. 73 from K6TJO
