===USS Wisconsin Radio Club Meeting - Noon - Saturday, 11 January 2020 The USS Wisconsin Radio Club will hold its regular monthly meeting at Noon on Saturday, January 11th. The Club meets the 2nd Saturday of each month at Gus and George’s Spaghetti & Steakhouse, 4312 Virginia Beach Boulevard in Virginia Beach. 2020 is the dawn of a new decade. Seventy years ago, 1950, was also the dawn of a new decade. But it wasn’t an active time for the USS Wisconsin. In January 1948, she reported to the Atlantic Reserve Fleet in Norfolk for inactivation. She was placed out of commission, in reserve on 1 July 1950, and became part of the Atlantic Reserve Fleet, anchored side-by-side with her sister ship, USS Iowa (BB-61) as shown in the center photo above. They wouldn’t stay in “mothballs” for long, though. Trouble was brewing on the Korean Peninsula (does that sound familiar?). On 3 March 1951, Wisconsin would be recommissioned and started the process of going to war once more. The Iowa followed, recommissioned 25 August 1951. John, N3JC, is working on a new logo for the club. This is your chance to participate in the process. Share you ideas at the meeting. In addition, John will have a short presentation on our WSPR transmitter project for the ship. Don’t forget about FrostFest at the Richmond International Speedway on Saturday, 1 February. Frostfest has been named the 2020 ARRL Virginia State Convention. Guest speakers include Dr. Tamitha Skov, the space weather expert, and Rich Moseson, editor of CQ Magazine. For details, CLICK HERE Frank Sinatra sang, “Doobie doobie do, be doobie doobie.” Our Treasurer, Duane, KJ4YKG, reminds us, “Dues are duly due, so do be pay them.” Speaking of money, Duane will also discuss our budget for 2020. Your input on any special projects would be appreciated. Those failing to re-up by the end of March will, unfortunately, be culled from our membership roster and email list. As a reminder, only local members pay annual dues - $10 for an individual or $15 for a family. Associate and honorary members do not pay dues on a continuing basis, but donations are gratefully received. You may pay your dues online via PayPal by following THIS LINK. However, bringing a check, money order, or cash to a meeting is the preferred method as it saves us the PayPal transaction fee. The weather forecast for Saturday is cold and cloudy. The interior of Gus & George’s is warm with sunny dispositions. Come out to the meeting. See you there! 73 Bill, N3WM President USS Wisconsin Radio Club The USS Wisconsin Radio Club, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation engaged in educational and charitable activities
