The New England Wireless & Steam Museum in East Greenwich, RI, will be hosting a Tune-Up on Saturday, July 22. The Tune-Up is an outdoor flea market for all kinds of electronics, including amateur radio, antique radios, and test equipment. The entire museum will be open and your entrance fee for the Tune-Up includes access to all museum buildings and guided tours. We have four buildings where you can spend a lot of time exploring and watching demonstrations that include everything from massive steam engines to spark gap transmitters. This is the place for antique radio collectors, amateur radio operators, and steam enthusiasts. July 22, 2023, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. 1300 Frenchtown Road, East Greenwich, RI. Admission $15 EA for adults or if you will be selling it is $25 for one spot on the field and 2 admissions. More details on the attached flyer. Our Website ( https://www.newsm.org ) will give you a good idea of what to expect. You will see radios from pre-WWI to modern times. Steam engines small enough to put in your lap to engines that have 16 foot flywheels. We even have a 25 foot tall outdoor boiler (Lookout) that powers all the engines. And there is the only remaining shore wireless station (Massie PJ Station) in the country. This station is filled with the original spark gap equipment plus a ham station that licensed hams are invited to operate.
If you want to get and idea of what to expect at the museum, check out our Craigslist event notification for the Tune-Up. There are 24 photos included. They will illustrate both the wireless (radios and associated artifacts) and the steam engines. I hope the pictures capture your interest and encourage you to visit us on July 22. Wonderful event. I attended years ago at the insistence of and with good friend and fellow AMer Corky, K1GWT (SK). Fascinating museum and displays. Just may have to revisit this year! Perfect excuse to drive 2-1/4 hours for a Del's lemonade!
We will have refreshments on sale and available at the museum too. Always something good to eat and drink. I think you will appreciate the many improvements we have made in the last few years. Make sure you take a tour with one of our docents (like me). We love radio and steam! Thanks for the great comment!
