Why on hell, would radio-amateurs travel so far away, then Tx/Rx from a Scheißmegacity? At very least, once reached Zaïre, should make it to Matadi, very nice climate, closer to the Atlantic Ocean, surely cheaper stay. Is it just me.....? Oliver

Reached Matadi via the very impressive Zaïre river while in the Merchant Marine. Was nice having some Primus listening to live music. Moral of the story, "Democratic" is not always better. In spite of rampant war between Zaïre and Angola on the other bank, Matadi was one of the safest place (after Marocco's ports) of the whole coast range (worst port of call was probably Lagos). Oliver
