kc0jez writes "This Saturday November 10th, my son and I will travel to Split Rock Lighthouse on Lake Superior in Minnesota. In an attempt to make a few contacts from the lighthouse, we'll be portable on 2 meters, starting out on 146.520 simplex at noon local (CST) time. We'll begin at the top of the cliff where the lighthouse is located (about 200 feet above the lake) and then near dusk move to the shoreline below with a handheld, as we'll be taking photos of the lighthouse. November 10th is the anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald, and this one time a year they light the light in rememberance of the lost sailors. We're hoping to be able to get a signal across the lake, so if you're on Saturday afternoon give us a call or listen for us. We'll QSL any contacts made."
