    Monroe Twp. - Robert Killops, 100 of Monroe Twp. died Tuesday January 19, 2021 in Monroe Twp.

    Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Mr. Killops emigrated to the US in 1954. He was a Jamesburg resident for many years before moving to the Clearbrook community in Monroe Twp. In 1979.

    Mr. Killops was a veteran of the British Army during World War II, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He served in the Seaforth Highlanders and was a volunteer for the 11th Scottish Commandos, where he fought in the Middle East and Asia. He served on a special military mission through Burma into China and survived a plane crash in India.

    After the was, he worked on a farm in England where he met his future wife Maria Wenger, who was from Switzerland. They moved to Switzerland, were married and he then worked for his father-in-laws construction company. While living in Switzerland, they had a son Robert Ian.

    They returned to England, and Mr. Killops worked on a farm while making plans to come to the US.

    In 1954 they traveled on the Queen Mary to NYC. Settling in NJ, he worked on a farm until getting a job at Rutgers University supervising the dairy plant for 30 years, until his retirement in 1985.

    Mr. Killops was an avid ham radio operator for many years and a civil defense volunteer in the 1960s. He was a former member of the Board of Education in Jamesburg. He enjoyed learning about computers, writing computer programs and would consider himself a "techie."

    He was predeceased by his son 2nd Lt. Robert Ian Killops in 1972 and his sister Violet.

    Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Maria, his daughter Marian Craig and her husband William of Monroe Twp., his sister Jean and his three grandchildren Ian Craig and his wife Lauren, Robin Craig and Kelly Craig and her fiance Pat Perrella.

    A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday January 23rd at the Lester Memorial Home 16 W. Church St., Jamesburg.

    Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Monroe Twp.

    Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday 10 - 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Craig/Killops Family Scholarship, University Advancement, 400 Cedar Avenue, West Long Branch, NJ 07764.
