    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

ROBERT B FAMIGLIO K3RF APPOINTED CORPORATE SOLICITOR FOR RADIO RELAY INTERNATIONAL

Radio Relay International is pleased to announce Robert B. Famiglio, Esq., K3RF of Media, Pennsylvania was unanimously confirmed as its solicitor by the board of directors at its recent meeting. Bob will serve pro bono as our legal counsel bringing a wealth of legal, radio industry, and public service expertise to our RRI team.

Famiglio has a long career in amateur radio, first licensed in 1967. He is a graduate electrical engineer and an attorney licensed to practice law in several states and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. An ARRL member of more than fifty years, he served as the elected section manager for eastern Pennsylvania until winning a hotly contested race for a three year term as vice director of the Atlantic division in 2014.

An traffic handler himself, Famiglio is a staunch proponent of a nationally recognized, disaster communication role for amateur radio’s traffic system. A champion of radio amateurs, he serves tirelessly assisting hams and their clubs with legal issues faced with antenna battles, interference disputes, and the many concerns facing hams today.

A graduate of the Pennsylvania Fire Academy, Famiglio is as an active officer with his town’s volunteer fire company, providing first responder fire and rescue services. In addition to wearing those hats, he is an appointed public safety radio officer and provides land mobile radio consulting for his fire company and his county’s fire and EMS radio service.

Said RRI’s chairman Joe Ames W3JY, a long-time friend and colleague, “Bob’s an incredibly talented, driven man. He understands radio and he understands public service because he lives the life. We couldn’t be happier he signed on with RRI.”

To an outsider like me this development implies a possible explanation for the unexplained and probably bogus disqualification by the ARRL EE committee of the K3RF candidacy for Vice Director. Or perhaps this is just a reaction to it.

Either way IMO its unfathomable and really a shame that the League could not / did not find a way to work with and retain the principles, talent and energy of the RRI.

Good luck and 73, John, WØPV

    Traffic handling by quiet professionals?

    In this day and age?

Have any of the quiet professionals ever heard of the internet or are they still stuck in the past?

Traffic handling? It would be funny if it was not so pathetic...

Good luck to them though. There has been a shortage of windmills lately though and big horses are harder to find these days also...

    Gary:

Why do you think you possess a license right now? So you can get on the air and have fun and get your precious QSL "buro via buro"? LMAO. No, you are licensed because the FCC feels that amateur radio is a viable EMCOMM entity and maybe of service in terms of an emergency. As someone who took hundreds of messages out of Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Maria, when amateur radio was their only link to the outside world, I'd say they have a point. Now there are many, and I'm assuming you fall into this group, which are just "users" or "takers" of ham radio's fruits. RRI picks up the slack for folks like you and helps keep our spectrum, because we not only qualify as a public service, but we practice what we preach. Thank goodness many intelligent hams, including K3RF recognize this. Others, well they're calling "CQ DX".

    Hi Bubba.

Neither has anyone else, and it will most likely stay that way.

Amateur radio history shows that when the stuff hits the fan, the mere fact that ham radio people were there before, during and after the fact made us valuable enough to keep around.

Ham radio organizations came after the fact, and the recent emphasis on "emcomm" has diluted the service with many folks who never have a conversation on air and who usually drop the service entirely after the battery on their new Chinese toy dies.

Ballooning the roles to over 750, 000 hams, most of whom will not do anything except put the HT in a drawer or glovebox "in case of emergency" will not do anything for them, for ham radio, or for any Amateur Radio association.

I did wish this new organization good luck, because they're going to need it. We already have one national organization, that like it or not, has done a lot (and that's putting it mildly) for Amateur radio.

Actually, I expected the response I got, so its not surprising that the OP is getting defensive. The fact that the response was over the top a bit is also expected.

...among several other reasons. The one you mentioned is part of one of the five specific purposes listed in 47 CFR 97.1.

So does that mean that K3RF and his supporters are trying to form a new association, And are trying to make
it sound bigger than life by the Yuuge announcement on Da Zed ?
