Ralph Throckmorton, K0TRV

I was responding to an ad for equipment and found myself talking to his son.
He said that he passed almost a year ago from cancer.
His son said he had been a ham some 50 years since he was a teenager.

 

I thought the name sounded familiar, Looked back in my log and turns out I talked to Ralph on 52 simplex from about 10 miles away. The only reason I recognized the name instead of the call sign was that in the course of our conversation he told me they were camping in a motorhome close to where he grew up and told me his last name for family reference. They were visiting southern Iowa from the west coast. That was more than five years ago.
