** EDITOR'S SPECIAL NOTICE (Reminder): YAHOO GROUPS (Shutting Down). It
was announced on October 13th that Yahoo Groups will be shutting down
after being online for 20 years. This means all amateur radio groups
(Golist, DX-IS, YBDXC_News, DX-EU...etc) mailing lists will stop. For
OPDX readers, this means if you have been reading the OPDX Bulletin
on these mailing lists, you will not receive it anymore and will have
to subscribe directly to the OPDX Mailing List to receive the bulletin
(See details below). Beginning December 15, 2020, the Yahoo Groups
website will shut down, and members will no longer be able to send
or receive emails from Yahoo Groups. They state, "Yahoo Groups has
seen a steady decline in usage over the last several years. Over that
same period we've witnessed unprecedented levels of engagement across
our properties as customers seek out premium, trustworthy content."

QSL Manager Pedro, EA5GL, is now the manager for the following stations:
    TK4QL, V51LZ and YV6BTF.

NEW QSL MANAGER. Andy, YS1AG/G5AYU, informs OPDX of the following
[edited]: "Due to the pandemics in El Salvador we have a blockage with
the outgoing mail: Postal Services refuse to accept any letter going
abroad. After the tremendous spring openings in six meters, I was
deluged with requests for QSL confirmations and unable to reply, I
asked help from K3SX, through a friend traveling to Miami I sent him
a pack of envelopes with QSL confirmations and he posted them. But
cards keep arriving and Sid, K3SX, has agreed to be my QSL Manager
only for 'pandemic' QSOs, that is only for QSOs during this year 2020.
I know there is a good number of hams both Stateside and Europeans
trying to confirm YS on Six meters."

NEW QSL BUREAU MANAGER FOR VA6/VE6. Jerry, VE6TL, informs OPDX that he
is the new incoming Canadian QSL Manager for the VA6/VE6 area. Jerry
states, "Larry, VE6KC, and the guys have been looking after it for 15
years (and doing an excellent job), so enough already. Please make a
note of the new address. The website remains the same, but will soon
be updated to reflect the changes." The new address is:

W4, UNITED STATES (Update/Special Event Reminder). Brad, N9EN, from Bluff
City, TN, informs OPDX that he will activate the special event station
W4A between December 18-20th. Activity is to honor of Major Edwin Howard
Armstrong's birthday which is on December 18th. Brad states [edited],
"The ARRL has issued me the callsign, W4A, for use through those dates.
I have some special QSL cards that I had printed up (1,000 of them) and
will mainly be operating on 20 meters and 40 meters. It will be a CW
operation only. I will be using a Cushcraft XM240 (2-el. 40 meter mono-
band yagi) at 25m and a Hygain 204BA (4-el. 20 meter monoband yagi) at
27m above the ground. I will also be using my Ameritron AL-82 amplifier,
which puts out roughly a kW of power. I also have antennas for 15 meters
    - a small 3-element 15 meter monoband yagi, fixed on EU; a full-size 80
meter delta loop and an inverted Vee for 160 meters. I will try out these
other bands, as conditions allow, but the majority of the QSOs will be
on 20 & 40 meters. This will be my 'small effort' to honor a man who was
our country's most important inventors in radio, television, radar and
cell phones. Among his inventions were: the regenerative and the super-
regenerative circuit; the super-heterodyne circuit; the invention of fre-
quency modulation and stereo multiplexing, as well as a major improvement
in radar at the end of World War II. I will have a page on QRZ.com for
the event and also the Swedish national ham radio magazine, 'QTC', will
have a write-up on my special event. Also, the ARRL will be listing the
event in QST magazine." Check out the "W4A Major Edwin Howard Armstrong
Special Event station" QRZ.com page for more details.
ADDED NOTE: Look for a second Major Edwin Howard Armstrong special
event station(s), W2XMN/W2XEA, to be on the air the weekend of December
19-20th. Apparently, this is going to be a SSB-only operation and will
be operated by Jeff, WA4AW. QSL via his home address.

YOTA MONTH. The ARRL Web page reports the following: "The month of December
has been designated as YOTA month. The annual initiative sponsored by
Youngsters on the Air (YOTA) initially focused on International Amateur
Radio Union (IARU) Region 1 (Europe, the Mideast, and Africa), with young
radio amateurs taking to the air with YOTA-suffix call signs. YOTA (Youth
on the Air) in Region 2 (the Americas) is following step, and K8Y, K8O,
K8T, and K8A will be on the air from the US..... All radio amateurs can
support this effort by contacting participating stations. An awards
program is available." To read the complete press release, see:
