Beach Lake resident Norman Sullivan died on May 6, 2020, with his wife of 51 years, Marie Sullivan, by his side.

A man of great musical talent and keen intelligence, he had an easy charm and a zest for life that lasted all through his 74 years.

Norman grew up in Silver Spring, MD. As a boy, he learned to play the drums, his lessons inspiring what would become a lifelong passion for music (especially jazz) and lead to his career as a musician in the US Air Force band. He also developed a fascination with amateur radio, a hobby he enthusiastically pursued throughout his life.

In 1968, Noman married Marie Mackey. Soon afterward, he entered the Air Force, serving as a KC-135 navigator during the Vietnam Era. He continued to serve the country he loved by becoming a musician in the Air Force Band. During this period, he performed all over the world, and he and his family had the opportunity to live in many different places.

Norman and his family moved to Wayne County, PA, in 1992, soon after he began teaching amateur radio and astronomy at Camp Watonka Science Camp. Norman explored the area with his customary zeal. He played in the Church Street Jazz Ensemble, mentored many HAMs, began a weekly Scrabble club, and explored the night sky. In 2017, he achieved an astronomer's dream when he witnessed a total solar eclipse in Oregon.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters and their families (including two granddaughters)and his sister, Sandra Fairhurst, of Columbia, MD.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a time to be announced.

Arrangements are attended by the Arthur A Bryant Funeral Home,1228 Main St, Honesdale.
