Bringing emergency communications to 60 meters is the theme of the Mid Atlantic Emergency Net or “MAEN”.

The net is called once monthly on the first Wednesday at 2000 hours Eastern Time on 5330.5 upper sideband. Net control duties rotate monthly among the first through fourth plus the 8th call districts.

All interested amateurs are encouraged to participate. The MAEN is open to all and has no organization affiliation. Liaisons are invited from other nets from anywhere able to hear the net, subject to propagation.

The purpose of the net is to encourage amateurs with an interest in emergency communications to develop a capability on this band by providing a twice monthly opportunity for equipment tests in the new spectrum allocation. The goal is to enable the use of 60 meters to support of mutual aid emergency communications in the Mid-Atlantic region during those times when conditions on 40 or 75 meters are difficult.

Any interested amateur may check into the net, serve as an NCS or join the Yahoo group at:

    www.yahoogroups.com/groups/60Meters_Emcom

Volunteers are always welcome as either primary or alternate NCS. If there is no regular scheduled NCS for a call area listed in the schedule, any amateur from anywhere subject to band conditions is encouraged to call the net. An example script is in the files section of the Yahoo group, but for use as a guide only. If you take the net, it is “your show” and you may modify the net format, within the bounds of good amateur operating practice. We only ask that the net be limited to approximately 30 minutes, so as not to “hog” the frequency. If you’d like to volunteer for an NCS slot, please email ke4sky@att.net
