    Larry Almos Vines March 5, 1940 - Sept. 23, 2022

    Larry Almos Vines, B.S. M.A. Ed.S, C.A.S.E.: Born: March 5, 1940, Died: September 23, 2022.

    Larry was preceded in death by his father: A. A. Vines, mother: Mary Wiggens Vines, twin brother: Lanny S. Vines, daughter: Laura Jean Vines.

    Larry is survived by his wife, Susan Gainey Vines: sister, Patricia Vines: step daughter, Brooke (Tom) Carruthers: granddaughters, Scout Carruthers and Neely Carruthers, as well as other nieces, and cousins.

    Larry graduated from Phillips High School, Athens State University, University of AL, Tuscaloosa, University of AL, Birmingham.
    Larry retired after serving in Administration and Counseling for 30+ years in over 5 middle and high schools in Jefferson County. This service included being chosen to represent all the principals to the Jefferson County Board of Education. Larry also then served as the Computer Coordinator and Interventionist for Oak Mountain Middle School, Shelby County, for 18+ years.

    He authored three booklets: "Bullying: Mediation", "Conflict Resolution Mediation" and "Effective Schools" and lectured regularly at the University of Montevallo, School of Education.
    Larry was a member of First United Methodist Church in Birmingham, AL, and the Ecclesia-Wingard Sunday School Class where he enjoyed the privilege of being one of their teachers. Larry loved singing, especially Gospel, and had been a member of several choirs and quartets.

    Larry's patriotism and service in the USMC was a huge source of pride. His 63 year service to the Army MARS as a Ham Radio Coordinator was the culmination of his lifelong love of Ham Radio operations.

    He was especially proud of earning an Extra Class License, as well as being the Trustee and Founder of the Ham Radio Eagle Net.

    There will be a "Celebration of Larry's Life" on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at First United Methodist Church, 19th Street N.,Birmingham, AL: 1 PM-Parlor (meeting with family) 2 PM Chapel. The service will also be live streamed on the church Facebook site.


    In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to UMCOR (United Methodist Commission on Relief).
