    Elmer L. Allen, Jr, K3LNV SK

    Elmer L. Allen, Jr, of Perkasie, PA, passed away Monday December 31, 2018, in Chestnut Hill Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. He was 92.

    He was the husband of the late Mary E. (Begley) Allen who died September 3, 2015.

    Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Elmer L. Sr. and Marian (Wheeler) Allen.

    Mr. Allen was a World War II veteran of the U. S. Army. He served in the European Theater and fought in the Battle of the Rhineland. He spent six (6) months in a military hospital after being severely wounded by enemy artillery fire. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

    Upon his discharge from military service, Mr. Allen attended the Philadelphia Wireless Technical Institute on the G. I. Bill.

    A research scientist, he was employed by the David Sarnoff Research Center RCA Laboratories in Princeton, NJ where he was a member of the Senior Technical Staff until his retirement in 1987. Mr. Allen held five U. S. Patents in radar technology, video disc, and HDTV. Prior to joining Sarnoff, he worked for General Electric focusing on defense systems, weather satellites, and the space program.

    Mr. Allen was an Amateur Radio enthusiast, K3LNV with an extra class license. He served as an official examiner for those seeking a license in the field. Other interests included deep sea fishing in North Carolina, photography, gunsmithing and target shooting, and oil painting.

    Mr. Allen was a member of Saint Agnes Catholic Church, Sellersville, PA.

    He is survived by three children, Stephen L. Allen and Margaret M. (Mags) Allen, both of Perkasie, PA, and Vincent J. Allen and his wife Donna of Middleburg, FL; two grandchildren, Vincent and Gregory Allen; and two great grandchildren, Vincent and AnnaBelle Allen. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Cheryl Allen; a sister, Eleaner Lee; and a brother Raymond Allen, in infancy.

    His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Saint Agnes Catholic Church, 445 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 10:45 AM. Interment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia, PA.

    Memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 N. Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960.

    Arrangements are by the Bernard Suess Funeral Home, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA.
