John Hizer, KØZA (ex-WNØQLH, ex-WAØQLH, ex-KDØS, ex-DL4JA, ex-7J7ACZ) passed away on November 14, 2022 at age 78. He passed away peacefully November 14, 2022 in Fort Collins, Colorado. He was part of a large family of siblings and was raised in St. Louis, MO and Denver, CO. His father worked with Pullman Company in various positions with Mary Belle holding down the home front. John graduated from Bishop Du Bourgh High School in St Louis and promptly enlisted in the US Air Force and served as a Tactical Missile Launch Specialist in the Foreign Sea Service based in Germany and Okinawa during the Vietnam War. While in Okinawa, he met and married Miyo Gushiken in December 1965. The couple settled in Denver metro area where they raised their two daughters, Kathaleen and Kim. John became a journeyman electrician while in the military and practiced his profession in the Denver are until the girls were grown. John then worked in Northern Japan and Georgia until he and Miyo returned to Denver to retire. John was an avid Chess player and represented the US in team competitions while in Europe. He had many interests which included amateur “ham” radio, His call, “KOZA”, Martial Arts Specialist holding a Black Belt in Karate and was a popular Tai-Chi instructor in Denver and Loveland. He played guitar in high school and added Ukele in retirement. He married longtime friend Judith Richendifer (ex-WDØHNP) in Loveland 2017. He loved and enjoyed family life and the senior life in the Loveland Community. John was preceded in death by his parents. John and Mary Belle, infant sister Kathleen and brother Don. He is survived by his wife, Judith of Loveland, his daughters Kathaleen Fielden (Tim) of Cottage Grove, MN and their children, Savannah Fielden (Diario DiMartino) Sidney Fielden and Benjamin Fielden as well as Kim Kern of Palm Coast, FL and her son Shane. John especially enjoyed getting to know his great-grandsons Diario DiMartino Jr and DaVinci DiMartino in the summer of 2022. Also, John is survived by his sisters, JoAnne Warner of Loveland, Mary Hizer (Nancy) of St. Louis, MO, Elizabeth Vogel (Jerry) of Perryville, MO and Jennifer Hizer (Roy) of Colorado Springs, CO. John had many friends around the world that he kept in touch with regularly, even grade school buddies. He was a soft (sometimes, obstinate) man, but was loved by all! Being the electrician he was, he frequently reminded us all that when the lights come on, it is time for him to leave.
