KA2KQP writes "The Sporadic Ham Radio Club will again be hosting Jamboree-On-The-Air for some Cub Scouts from Packs 102 and 268 in western New York. The Jamboree-On-The-Air, or JOTA, is an annual Scouting and Amateur Radio event sponsored by the World Scout Bureau of the World Organization of the Scout Movement where scouts from all over the world are invited to communicate with each other through Amateur Radio. JOTA is always held on the third weekend of October.

This year we will have approximately 45 Cub Scouts and their leaders as guests. Cub Scouts are boys from the ages of 7 to 11. For most of them it will be their first experience with Amateur Radio. We plan on demonstrating SSTV, PSK-31, RTTY, morse code and LEO (low Earth orbit) satellite communications as well as giving each scout an opportunity to make an HF voice contact. One idea that seems interesting is to create and add to stories via one of the text modes and forward them on to other scout groups for them to do the same.

We will have two stations on the air simultaneously operating as K2FA. Our plan is to have groups of approximately 10 boys for one and one half hour sessions starting at 8:00 a.m. EDT October 20, 2001. Please volunteer your station so some scouts and their leaders can participate and look for us and other JOTA stations on the air. One of the purposes of ham radio is the “Continuation and extension of the amateur's unique ability to enhance international goodwill.”

The JOTA organizer’s web site is http://www.middelkoop7.myweb.nl . The Sporadic Ham Radio Club’s web site is http://www.k2fa.org . We will be posting our operating frequency and mode on our JOTA page."
