Is this related to whatever the USAF F22's did?

To use a temporary digital repeater for DVB-T / digital ATV or for digital phonic contacts is charming, but really expensive.

What about the pollution from the gas envelope when the balloon dies?

Nearly nothing. A ballon is filled with Helium gas. And Helium is just a part of natural gas, where the other parts for the greenhouse effect are contained in. So Helium is neutral.

    Excellent presentation.

The issue of continuous tracking ability remains a big problem.

    Best wishes to the team:)

Up to now I was not interested in ballooning, but I have seen the video. Interesting, will look for further informations. Thank you for the inspiration.

I have used a tethered balloon to take up a long wire antenna for HF/QRP/CW, Can be fun, and since my balloon is recovered I am not endangering any aircraft, and the lives aboard the aircraft. I know he said they were compliant with the FAA rules, but I would hate for one of my balloons and payload to be hit by an aircraft traveling at 300 mph causing damage to the aircraft. I just do not want to take that gamble with human life.

New AR model 'airliner' balloon appears to be a passenger commercial jet aircraft so as to scare an F22 pilot into thinking "better not shoot at the passenger jet"...

...can circumnavigate the world without refuelling.

Not much more than a typical fart. The biggest polluters in the world are cattle farts.

Just don't let it loose near Russian airspace.

I suppose there is all kinds of paranoia about this sort of thing now. Especially when you go to get lauch approval from the FAA. Do this, mark the balloon USA in big letters on it or something. Then they may leave it alone.

Please God! Tell me that was a joke. I mean the concern of pollution from a helium balloon in the first place. If not I'm a one man methane factory and I would be a problem.
