    George A Sereikas, K2WO SK

George Arthur Sereikas, age 77, of St. Augustine, passed away peacefully (but unexpectedly) in his home on January 31, 2024.

George was born on June 23, 1946 in Chicago, IL to parents George Caesar and Dorothy (Kasputis) Sereikas. He lived on the South Side of Chicago until he was a young teen when his family moved to Michigan City, Indiana.
He graduated in 1964 from St. Mary's High School where he was the captain of the basketball team, King of the senior prom, and played the lead role in the school play: the Mikado. George went on to attend Christian Brothers College in Memphis, Tennessee, where he played for the school's basketball team and was president of his Senior class. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in History.

More significant and life changing than anything that happened during his college days, George met the love of his life, Kimberly Powell. They married on August 16, 1969, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. They began their married life in Wheaton, Illinois where George worked for Illinois Bell. They moved to Basking Ridge, New Jersey, in 1977, where he continued his career with AT&T in a managerial marketing position and retired in 1998.
After retiring, George and Kim moved to Orlando, Florida to live closer to Kim's family. He had been a resident of St. Augustine since 2019. George was a lifelong Catholic and most recently a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church.

George was an avid Amateur Radio Operator throughout his life, beginning in high school. Known in the “HAM” world as K2W0, he formed many longtime relationships with fellow operators all over the country and around the world.
During the 70’s and 80’s, George was a certified Scuba Diver.

George and his family enjoyed many vacations, which usually involved their closest friends and extended family. Among his favorite destinations were the Florida Keys, New Smyrna Beach, Lake Wallenpaupack, Bonaire, Cozumel, and more recently Rock N Roll Cruises through Alaska and the Caribbean.

George loved to tell stories of the amazing concerts he attended throughout his life, including the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, John Prine, Frank Sinatra, Buffalo Springfield, Neil Young, Crosby Stills and Nash, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Jimmy Buffet, the Moody Blues, Bruce Springsteen, Simon & Garfunkel, and many, many more. Always intertwined with these stories were the important friends and relatives who shared these experiences with him.
George was a devoted sports fan. Particularly in recent years, he rarely missed watching a Notre Dame or University of Florida Football game on TV and would call his closest friends to cheer and to discuss how the game was progressing.
George was an amazing communicator who loved people. When he welcomed guests to his home, he always liked to find out what they liked to drink and what music they liked to listen to—from then on, whenever they visited, he would be playing their favorite tune and pouring their favorite libation. He took a great interest in learning about people’s lives and interests and anyone George encountered knew they had a friend.
More than anything, George was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
    He will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorothy Sereikas. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kimberly "Kim" Sereikas of St. Augustine; a son, George Sereikas and his wife Andrea of DeBary, FL., a daughter, Kelly Hale and her husband Taylor of Key Largo, FL.; a sister, Dian Steere and her husband Bob of Fort Myers, FL.; and grandchildren, Joe Sereikas, Beth Sereikas, Florence Hale, and Julia Hale.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 9 am on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church, 86 M.L. King Avenue, St. Augustine, Florida 32084. In lieu of flowers, donations in George's memory can be made to: Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
