Last yeat, India’s favourite homebrewer came up with a hybrid SDR transciever – sBITX. sBitx as an experimentor’s transceiver, draw mixed reviews from the amateur radio hobbists. Well, that’s how the homebrew projects mostly work, isn’t it? This was all about version 1. We don’t have much details of this new v2. The UI is definately overall from the previous boring and sometimes confusing GTK based user interface of the version 1. Interstingly v2 interface is designed with web technologies i.e. HTML, CSS & JS. This makes making UI changes easier for everyone. You can follow sBitx developement here: https://groups.io/g/BITX20 Here’s the video from Farhan showing sBitx v2 with various features – filters, bandstacking, logging and audio recording etc while making a quick contact over India’s oldest HF Net @ 7050 – 40 Meters (Belgaum Net) Source: https://itshamradio.com/sbitx-v2-revealed/
It looks like it has some very nice new features but I wish it had a larger frequecy display for my weak eyes. Frank
dr Farhan, Your latest try @ a low power xcvd is VERY UNIQUE as well as MORE USER FRIENDLY, GREAT JOB!!! You should consider MANUFACTURING THEM, not in "kit-form" but "USER READY"!!! I see a lot of plusses in your invention and would venture to guess that your RIG would be more desirable then ANY OF THE CHINESE RIGS!!! Please think about my suggestion as there is MONEY TO BE MADE for having a "USER-FRIENDLY RIG" globally!!! Best 73, Jim-NN6EE Norcal, USA
I bought the V4 years ago and three of the V6's which is a vast improvement. Sent oneV6 to my son (N5DIM) in California who is an avid QRPer and likes to go hilltopping, battery powered. He loves the radio. The radios from Farhan work but many like to improve on them, mostly to add more features like S-meter and AGC. . The receive on the radios is fantastic. I don't need to improve them as I started out building a 2-tube regeneration radio in the '50s so the V6 is great. The complete V6 kit with the cabinet, speaker, mic, etc for about $100, shipped is very nice and affordable. The mic can be improved somewhat and many do so. By the way, after ordering you normally receive the radio in about a week. The complete kit is plug-n-chug, no soldering required, and takes me about 30 minutes to assemble using mostly a screwdriver. There are two boards, the main board and the display/synthesizer front panel board. I'm anxious to see the video and after that, I may have more to say. First thought is hoping for Farhan to offer a second board option in the radio for an automatic antenna tuner (there's plenty of room) but the ATU-100 for less than $100 built as an external is an easy fix. FOLLOW UP Just saw Farhan's video. This version has much more to offer than the V6. More to come, I'm sure.
