In honor of the 80th anniversary of the Doolittle raid on Tokyo, the Columbia Amateur Radio Club (CARC) will host a radio event at the South Carolina War Museum on Saturday, April 16 2022 from 9:00 am till 4:00 pm.

We will start operations on 40 and 20 meters. Check your favorite spotting sites for CARC. All contacts will receive a QSO card by mail.

The public is invited to the event and to visit the War Museum that day. Admission is free.

On April 18, 1942, Colonel Jimmy Doolittle led a squadron of sixteen B25 bombers from the USS Hornet to conduct the first raid on the Japanese mainland after our entry into the war. The raid came only 4 months after the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor and was vital to raising the morale of the American people.

Starting at 10:00 am, amateur radio operators at the museum will be making contacts across the US and, if conditions are right, around the world. Visitors will have a chance to observe radio activities and explore the ham radio hobby with members of the club.

CARC members participate in other events throughout the year, including Parks on The Air, Islands on The Air, and national summer and winter field days. The Club actively supports fundraising and sporting events, including the Harbison 50K and the Tour de Cure. Qualified Club instructors offer free training and testing for new hams.
