Nov. 6th is First Wednesday AM Night

Sponsored by the Collins Collectors Association

Please join us for a parade of senior Collins radios on AM this Wednesday night at 8PM your local time.

This event, now in its second year, encourges folks with "classic" vacuum tube receivers and transmitters to congregate on 3880Kc for old-fashion storytelling and enjoyment of good audio as was heard in the Golden Age.

Collins gear is not mandatory, but the event is a showcase for collectible AM-oriented examples of equipment from Cedar Rapids, including models from the broadcast, amateur, military and utility/point-to-point communications categories.

The event features rolling coverage from East to West, anchored in each time zone by an AM Tall Ship, who runs the session for an hour starting 8PM local time.

After a preample explaining the gathering and promoting the great-sounding specialty of AM on the shortwave ham bands, the anchor station then takes check-ins with each person telling a little about their station and the fascination with vintage gear, be it Collins, homebrew, or any other brand.

Closing at 9P, the anchor then hands it to the next Tall Ship in that 8P time zone, who takes it for an hour in the same fashion. Check-ins can cross time zones, but generally it's quite satisfying for folks in outer time zones to listen to the AM action within an area.

The gathering wraps up in the Western time zone.

An excellent time is had by all, with hundreds of check-ins typical in this relaxed, conversatioinal and social event.

    See you Wednesday night !
