My response to all of the "Super Government has all the answers" types on the thread is this, "When seconds count, first responders are minutes away, when hours count they are days away".. When a major disaster happens it takes the Feds, State, and Local agencies DAYS to mobilize and respond.. And who do you think plays a role in feeding all those agencies information about the disaster area... Duh, do I need to give you a hint, you know, it's the old out of shape guys with their old radios....... Sheesh.........
The biggest problem with the various digital modes is the fragmentation of the amateur base. Every new mode has it's adherents and pulls users away from the main base. Dstar can't talk to Fusion, DMR, NXDN, IDAS or P25, Fusion can't talk to DMR, Dstar, NXDN, IDAS or P25, and DMR can't talk to Dstar, Fusion, NXDN, IDAS or P25, and NXDN and IDAS can talk to each other at the lower levels, but not to Dstar, DMR, Fusion or P25 P25 can't talk to Dstar, DMR, NXDN, IDAS or Fustion, but it can talk to public safety. The only thing that everybody can talk to/on is conventional analog radio. In a true disaster response scenario every digital radio group will find itself isolated.
You do NOT have solar panel QRM - the -panels are simple DC generators. You probably have solar charge controller QRM - the charge controller has a DC input, a load connection output, and a connection to the battery bank. Google the make and model and "interference" - someone else may have already fought the battle with your make and model. As a last resort swap it for a Morningstar brand. That company is VERY careful about interference - the major people in the company are hams. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.
